    Physical Education

Maltese Road Primary School encourage high levels of participation in Physical education throughout the school. We support learning in a safe and supportive environment. We believe it is vital and unique in its contribution to a pupil’s holistic development. It develops an understanding of the many benefits of exercise, such as co-ordination, control, teamwork and skill through a balanced range of relevant activities, covering Gymnastics, Games, Dance, Swimming, Athletics and Outdoor and Adventurous activities. The teaching of PE promotes an understanding and positive attitude towards active lifestyles in adulthood.

Our school policy concerning earrings during an active PE lesson.

Although in the past, children were able to tape over their earrings, unfortunately, regulations have changed from Essex Healthy and Safety.

Head teachers have been advised to prohibit the wearing of earrings and ear-studs in all aspects of physical activity because these present a hazard to the wearer and to others.

Serious accidents have occurred in Essex schools as a result of contact between pupils wearing earrings or studs and other pupils or equipment, thus damaging the ear, or where items of jewellery have caught in apparatus and torn the ear lobe.

If a child is unable to remove their earrings, then they will not be able to take an active part in the lesson. The child will be involved by sitting, listening and making notes. To avoid any disappointment, please leave the earrings at home on the days, in which PE takes place.
