    Homework

    📚 Reading
Children are expected to read at home at least three times each week and should record this in their reading record. The children are responsible for changing their books when they need to. To encourage fluency, we suggest that children read their school books several times at home before changing them. Every time the children read at home, their name is put into our super reader pot. During our Friday assembly, a name is pulled out at random and their reading is celebrated with the whole school.

The children will participate in whole class reading lessons twice a week and will be individually listened to once a fortnight.

    ✏️ Spelling
Children should practise their age-appropriate statutory spellings, which can be found in the middle of their reading records or in the 'Useful Links and Resources' section below. Children can use SpellingFrame https://spellingframe.co.uk/ to learn the weekly spellings or practise in other ways, such as Look, Cover, Write, Check, identifying tricky parts of words or completing a quick spelling test.

    Snack

Most children require a snack at morning break to keep them going through the day. We encourage children to bring in healthy snacks.

Many of these will help contribute to their 5 daily portions of fruit and vegetables, keep them alert and help them concentrate.

Children in EYFS and KS1 have a daily snack of fruit or vegetables provided for free by the government, so additional snacks for these ages may not be required.

If you are intending to send in healthy snacks with your child please limit them to the list below.

    • Vegetables/vegetable sticks - celery, cucumber, peppers or carrots.
    • A piece of cheese - cheddar cheese or Babybel
    • A piece of fresh or dried fruit - pineapple, mango, kiwi, plain raisins, apricots, blueberries, banana slices.
    • Breads are also good snacks - break sticks, plain pretzels, banana bread, malt loaf, oat/rice cakes and small pitta.

We are aiming for a common-sense approach, with the key being to keep it healthy and no chocolates, sweets or crisps during breaktimes.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on Class Dojo.

    Thank you,
