Summer Term

Let the Adventure Begin!!

Summer Term 1

Animals are always fascinating to children. Real and imagined animals inspire creative cross-curricular learning. In this terms topic we will be looking at all creatures great and small. We will be looking at different animal and creature life cycles, what they eat, and what habitats they live in. The children will discover how animals and creatures change and what makes them grow, and they will look at different environments around the world. We will have hands-on discovery learning by incubating and hatching our own eggs and watching the life cycle of a butterfly from a baby caterpillar to releasing them into the wild.

Summer Term 2

Our Pirates and under the sea topic gives us the motivation to explore in the outdoor classroom. With the use of drainpipes, boxes, crates and planks we can build pirate ships and act out our understanding of a pirate's life. In our science investigations We can explore, 'Will it sink or float?' and choose which materials would be best to make our own pirate ships. We will be consolidating our knowledge of maps and using positional language to find treasure and by creating our own pirate maps, we will navigate our way to Admiral's Park.  We will look at animals that live under the sea and look at how pollution can affect our oceans and how we can keep our planet clean.

PE

Our PE day is Monday this term. In reception children will be spending time in addition to their PE lesson on Mondays by taking part in dance, yoga and the daily mile through the week to promote the importance of being active. This will continue to meet children's needs above and beyond.

Children should bring their PE kit to school at the beginning of each half term; it will be kept safely on their peg. PE kit should include a white t-shirt or polo, jogging bottoms (as the spring time is normally very cold) and black plimsolls.

Please also pack a dark coloured sweatshirt or hoodie, as it is especially cold during this time of the year. Please make sure everything is labelled clearly with your child's name. All earrings must be removed on PE day and hair should be tied up. PE kits will be sent home each holiday for a good wash!

We love to cook

In Reception, we provide the children with regular cooking and tasting activities. The children love these times and there are so many learning opportunities within them. To ensure your child's safety, it is vital that you keep the office informed of any allergies or dietary requirements that your children have.
